Circa's Wolf is a triumph - brimming with primal power and acrobatic precision.

Run time: 80 Minutes. One intermission

Wolf

Circa’s Wolf is a fierce, driving work that transforms the stage into something feral and alive. Ten extraordinary performers fuse acrobatics, aerial work, and athletic dance into a single, unbroken force. For Artistic Director Yaron Lifschitz, the wolf is a symbol of our untamable selves: liberating and savage. In two contrasting acts, the company moves from chaos to pack, from disruption to something that feels — against all odds — like belonging. Circa has performed in over 45 countries for more than two million people, and has established itself as one of the great reinventors of movement-based circus.

Circa’s Wolf fuses acrobatics, aerial work and athletic dance into a raw, unified experience, exploring the symbol of the wolf in two contrasting acts, charting a journey from chaos to collective belonging.

Circa is among the most innovative and daring contemporary circus companies in Australia. In Wolf, the performers display their prowess in a wide range of circus techniques, including aerial silks, acrobatics, partnered lifts, athletic dance, and more. Unlike traditional circus, Circa performers primarily toss and catch each other, rather than props like hoops or balls. Throughout the work, the performers channel the movement of the wolf through raucous running, crawling, and playfighting. This animal spirit is the catalyst for many exciting stunts throughout the night, such as hair-raising drops and flips. Wolf unfolds alongside a driving electronic music score, with the fierceness of the performers accentuated by bright lights and bold patterned unitards.

Circa: circus that moves the world.

Circa is one of the world’s great performing arts companies, pushing the boundaries of contemporary dance. Each performance is a transformative endeavor in creative expression with a message that goes beyond its medium. Circa prides themselves on being true to their core values: quality, audacity, humanity, and redefines dance as an artform by showcasing how extreme physicality can forge powerful and emotive experiences. Circa is relentless in the way they push boundaries, blending movement, dance, theatre and circus. Circa has been named winner of the Creative Industries category at the prestigious Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards, recognizing the company’s outstanding international success and cultural impact.

Director Yaron Lifschitz centers an exploration of the inner and outer self through dance with elements of circus, pushing the human body to its limits, and using art as a tool to not only face, but remake our future. He has directed more than 80 productions over circus, opera, physical theatre, theatre, and large-scale live events. His work has been seen in forty countries, across six continents by over 1 million people. As CEO and Artistic Director of Circa he has brought circus to the Barbican, string quartets and acrobats to Brooklyn Academy of Music, four years of performances to Berlin and major shows to major festivals and venues around the world. He’s created strange, beautiful things in tents, concert halls, Spiegel tents, and opera houses as well as cemeteries and cathedrals. At the heart of Yaron’s work is restless curiosity and a fierce belief in the power of performance to connect and transform. He describes his creations as “love letters to a species that [are] not always easy to like.”
